Over a decade of design for this coffee fanatic’s paradise, each project every bit as remarkable as the beans they source and roast
Back in November of 1999, Stumptown Coffee Roasters opened their first cafe and roastery on Division Street in Portland. Our Creative Director was there, crafting the brand that would come to boasts a dozen locations in over five cities.
These were heady days of slinging shots, spinning records, and crafting Stumptown’s visual presence, from the logo that graces their van and espresso machines to mugs, ads, and website.
We collaborated with Stumptown during their entire decade plus run as an independent coffee roaster and produced a number of websites, each evolving along with innovations in web capabilities and the coffee industry.
The Stumptown Coffee Roasters website was built from the ground up to be a coffee fanatic’s paradise – every bit as good as the beans they roast and sell. Why did it website change so many times? For one, the online world was changing quickly; we went from a full flash website to creating Stumptown’s first responsive website, all the while shepherding them into the age of mobile devices and social media. Our newsletter campaign design was listed as one Campaign Monitor’s top 100 newsletter designs.
And then, of course, there was the irreverent energy of building a brand from the ground up. Who can forget the year where we created a new Mercury ad per week.
