Children’s Cancer Association

Role

Children’s Cancer Association’s (CCA) programs are rich with joy, music, friendship, play, and resources for the over 20,000 families facing cancer and other serious illnesses. Their energy and enthusiasm is palpable. It pulls you in.

From Stumptown Coffee Roasters to Penner-Ash Wine Cellars, notable Portlanders are joining with CCA to spread joy. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be among this phenomenal group. We partnered with CCA to create a website that would not only embody their vibrant spirit, but also transform the way that they communicate with supporters and spread joy.

We partnered with CCA to create a website that would not only embody their vibrant spirit, but also transform the way that they communicate with supporters and families. From a visual perspective, this means embedding the site with the energy we saw in CCA’s people, space, and print material.

Our design was inspired by our vibrant “alphabet soup” moodboard, drawing inspiration from sources as varied as Lily Li’s Aeroplay Kite project to Joe Ling’s Ikea business cards and CCA’s existing playful illustrations.

For an organization in constant motion, we additional focused on a deep dive through content analysis and information architecture. Through this process, we identified key content types that are utilized over and over throughout the site. We then created flexible pages that hold any number of customized content blocks, making building a custom page as easy as building a towner with blocks (albeit a gorgeous content-filled tower with blocks made up of colors, buttons, forms, galleries and more).

The new site launched in time for their annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser which raised over $740,000 (and counting). But why stop there…Along with partnering on the website, we worked with our friends in the coffee industry to raise funds for CCA and then made a video to tell you all about it.

Stay tuned as we’re just getting started.
