Decaf Isn't a Warm-Up Act

By Kandace Brigleb

in Our Work

Decaf has a bit of reputation problem in the roastery. Plenty of roasters are a little unsure how to handle it, and some only run it to warm up the drum before the "real" coffee goes in. Swiss Water® Process is changing this narrative, and they brought us in to help.

First, they ran a research study with the Coffee Excellence Program at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences to learn what the Swiss Water® Process actually does to coffee in the roaster. Then they took those findings, added their own decades of decaf knowledge, and created a Roasting Guide for specialty roasters.

Roasting Guide For Specialty Roasters

They brought the technical expertise, and our part was design. We created the Roasting Guide with the brand system we developed with Swiss Water® last year: The Wave, the color story, the geometric shapes, and a voice that stays warm without losing the science.

The guide is free, and it lives in the new Swiss Water® Roaster Resources hub alongside their video series and brew guides. If you roast decaf, or if you've been avoiding it altogether, take a moment to read through the guide. You might just get as excited about decaf as we all are!

“We're confident the tips in this guide will make your Swiss Water® Process decafs a source of pride in your coffee program.” - Swiss Water® Process
