When Athletes Create Energy Bars, Subscription Magic Happens

Picky Bars are delicious real-food energy bars created by real-life professional athletes Lauren Fleshman, Jesse Thomas, and Stephanie Bruce. These three founders have worked with a modest but incredibly passionate team to grow their independent company into something special. They've done quite well in this endeavor—their bars are some of the best-tasting health bars on the planet, and the founders exude the sort of heart, joy for life, and determination that makes each of us feel a bit stronger inside.

No doubt about it, this is a down-to-earth, hardworking, and hilarious group of innovators worth keeping up with. Which is exactly why so many people wanted to join their subscription club.

The Challenge: Spreadsheets and Phone Calls

When Picky Bars came to Needmore, they had a growing and passionate following, but they were tracking their club subscriptions on a Google spreadsheet and fielding phone calls for subscription updates. We knew we could do better.

You see, the Picky Club is no mere bar subscription service. Rather, it's an entrée into a family of nature-loving, outdoorsy people with a shared passion for kick-ass bars and authentic living. Their community deserved a digital experience that matched the energy and care that goes into every bar.

Our Approach: Understanding the Community

Before we designed a single pixel, we spent time understanding what made the Picky Bars community special. We observed how the founders interacted with their customers, the language they used, and the values that drove their passionate following. This anthropological approach helped us create not just a website, but a digital home that reflected their authentic community culture.

The Solution: Seamless Subscription Experience

We replaced their Google spreadsheet system with a seamless WooCommerce Subscriptions integration that made joining the Picky Club both simple and enjoyable. Folks need to be able to join quickly and then go on with their day, knowing they'll receive their monthly dose of "radness" without any hassle.

The new website design captures the founders' infectious energy while making subscription management effortless—both for customers and for the Picky team.

The Results Speak for Themselves

We're thrilled to share that in the 3 months since this site launched, Picky Bars has seen a 150% increase in sign-ups for their Picky Club. More importantly, we created a digital experience that truly represents their community and culture—proving that when you understand a brand's authentic story, the technology becomes a natural extension of that narrative.
