ESTABLISHED 2004

We uncover the story first. Then we bring it to life across every touchpoint.

Born from an unlikely fusion of a coffee-obsessed designer and a story-focused anthropologist, Needmore Designs has spent two decades helping brands discover who they really are. Our work begins with research and conversation, excavating the authentic narrative at the heart of what you do. Only then do we translate that story into the visual language it deserves.

What We Make

Brand Identity: Logos, color systems, typography, and the guidelines that hold it all together

Naming: Finding the right words when you're starting fresh or ready for a change

Packaging : Labels, bags, boxes, and the tactile experience of your product

Websites: E-commerce, editorial, and everything in between

How We Work

Every project starts the same way: with listening. We dig into your history, your customers, your competition, and your aspirations before we ever open a design file.

Discovery: Research and conversation to uncover your authentic story

Strategy: Defining the brand position, voice, and visual direction

Creation: Bringing the story to life whether that's a website, packaging system, brand identity, or all three

Collaboration: Working alongside you, not just for you

The Digital Craftsman

Ray Brigleb has spent twenty years designing for people who make things they care deeply about. Roasters, importers, makers. His own obsession happens to be coffee: he was the first employee at Stumptown Coffee Roasters, helped build that brand from scratch, produced the Unpacking Coffee podcast, and created the tasting app Cuppin. That background taught him to listen before designing and to build for how a business actually works, not just how it looks.

The Story Architect

Trained in Cultural Anthropology and Linguistics, Kandace Brigleb decodes the DNA of brands. She approaches each project as an ethnographic expedition, asking the questions that reveal what makes you different. A keynote speaker at WooConf and a recognized voice in the e-commerce community, she brings that same clarity to her role as your dedicated Producer. She keeps complex projects moving while ensuring the authentic story stays at the center of every decision.

Truly masters of their craft and I was continually impressed with their attention to detail, organization, responsiveness and planning throughout a multi-faceted and ambitious project. Meeting these challenges was all the more satisfying alongside a group whose sense of humor and hospitality ran constant throughout.

Unpacking Coffee

Over 76 episodes, we sat down with a different coffee roaster each week to talk about their story and their design. It started as a passion project, but it's also how we've built relationships across the industry and sharpened our eye for what makes coffee packaging work. The show is currently on hiatus, but the archive is worth a visit.

When he's not designing, Ray spins vintage vinyl around Portland. He holds down monthly residencies at Radio Room and Keys Lounge, with occasional sets elsewhere. The site is fun to poke around. He makes a new poster for every show and posts full set lists so you can dig into what he played.
