Ritual Coffee Roasters

Producing a digital revolution for a San Franciscan coffee icon

Ritual has been part of the San Francisco coffee scene since 2005. They’re fully independent, woman-owned, and one of the roasters that helped define the city’s coffee identity. We designed and built their WooCommerce site to match the energy they bring to everything else.

The Redesign

Over the years, Ritual’s online presence had grown into a patchwork of sites built for different needs at different times. None of them reflected where the brand is now. They needed one cohesive site that could tell their story, sell their coffee, and feel as intentional as their cafés do in person.

We built a site with room to breathe. Big, colorful layouts that let Ritual’s existing packaging artwork and photography do the heavy lifting, with clear navigation and a real focus on accessibility.

Incredibly colorful and comfortably spacious, with enhanced navigation and a focus on accessibility, we’re now able to better tell the stories of our coffees and the producers who grow them.

The Coffee Pages

The product pages are the heart of the site. Each coffee gets its own page built around Ritual’s distinctive label artwork, with the packaging colors and illustrations setting the visual tone. From there, the page layers in origin stories, tasting notes, and producer details so customers can go as deep as they want.

The goal was to give every coffee enough space to feel like its own thing while keeping the site feeling like one cohesive place.

Subscriptions and Beyond

The subscription flow makes it easy to sign up and stay connected, but it doesn’t feel transactional. We designed it to feel like an invitation rather than a checkout process

Beyond subscriptions, the site gives real space to the things that make Ritual worth following: producer stories, café locations, brew guides, and news. Each section has its own character but shares the same colorful, spacious design language that runs through the whole site.
