Mac Tip: Active Client Folders

Find yourself working with a lot of clients? We keep quote a few clients in a giant folder on our network, curiously named Clients. Each project has a folder, named sequentially, that looks something like 1128-kateendle.com.

We frequently back up this folder, but we keep lots of old projects online because we often need to look at something from an older project without having to dig out a DVD. So we’ve taken to using color labels to indicate active projects (green) and on-hold projects (grey), as well as the occasional internal project (orange). This helps a lot but lately we’ve found ourselves scrolling through about 100 of these folders, and after a while that just feels like a waste of time.

So what we’ve done is create a Smart Folder that shows all folders colored green in Clients and stashed it right in the sidebar, so it is easy to find all the time. Best of all, this list is updated every time you change the color label on a folder.
