Good Experiences with Design Within Reach

We sometimes joke about Design Within Reach. Their prices are sometimes not quite as “in reach” as one might hope, especially with IKEA now in town. But it’s always such a pleasure to shop there, the quality of the goods is unimpeachable, and the service is second to none.

One of the furnishings we recently ordered is the Eames Round Table, to go with our matching chairs. Oh, it’s a thing of beauty. It arrived last Friday, after a two month wait.

So after these two months, it arrives damaged. I mean, it was basically falling out of the box it arrived in, and I was sure to write “subject to inspection” above my name on the delivery slip. Not looking good.

I immediately called the shipping company. (After assembling it… I had to!) The shipping company referred me to Herman Miller, who referred me back to Design Within Reach. This wasn’t looking too promising.

But Design Within Reach saved the day. My man over there asked that we hold on to the table for now, and when the replacement arrives, just take the new one out of the box, and put the old one in. That’s the outcome I was hoping for, so I was well pleased. It’s the reason we’ve furnished half our office from there.
