We recently launched a website for Dr. Kat Van Kirk. Dr. Kat is a clinical sexologist and relationship therapist on a mission to help regular folks, like you and me, feel comfortable with their bodies and enjoy sex. Dr. Kat is the kind of person one feels instantly comfortable opening up to; with a vibrant personality and quick wit, she is anything but clinical. She is also who Men’s Health, Cosmopolitan, and a host of others call when they need to know a bit about sexuality.
My desire is to destroy the myth of Madonna/whore once and for all and to help men and women live fully integrated lives where we don’t hide what makes us feel good. (Dr. Kat)
In order to get her message out, Dr. Kat must thoughtfully grace the middle ground between what might be perceived as too raunchy on one side and a boring, clinical approach on the other. After all, she wants to reach people that aren’t already comfortable with their sexuality. This is a sweet spot that Dr. Kat fills well. She is funny, knowledgeable and completely confident. Although, Dr. Kat embodies all of this and more in person, her former website wasn’t doing a great job of showing her true personality.
We set about to create an experience that was inviting and fun, just like Dr. Kat. We reworked the flow of information and integrated her new identity. Most importantly, we turned the focus of the website to Dr. Kat. After all, there are lots of sex sites out there, but there is only one Dr. Kat.
This has been a tremendously rewarding experience for our team to be a part of (and not just because we got to celebrate the launch with some topical donuts from Voodoo Doughnuts down the street). When we worked with Equality House earlier in the year, we learned the importance of having a positive self image and the consequences of not feeling personally empowered. Dr. Kat’s project was a natural progression from this; when we first started talking to Dr. Kat, we were immediately struck by how important her work is and how deeply she cares about people’s personal self image and happiness. We also learned that having a healthy sexual life and attitude is part of this overall happiness. We’ve been honored to get to know the good doctor and help create a platform for her message.
