Do Web Designers Matter?

(Spoiler alert: they totally do.)

From time to time, we find ourselves looking for a way to describe our clear benefit. Why hire a web designer for my business, some may wonder, when I’m perfectly capable of putting up my own Facebook page, or signing up for a Twitter account?

We think of the websites that we design as the center of your online universe. We believe that everything else you put online, in all the different social networks and search engines and so on, should all point back to your website. It’s the only place you control – the one place you can speak with your unique voice.

We feel that it’s impossible to convey what makes you unique on somebody else’s website or service. On Facebook, how can the nuance of your indivualism rise above the roar of your nephew’s timeline updates and political argument? How can a tweet set a mood, or convey a unique value proposition? Not to mention the ads. It’s very likely that ads for your competition will be competiting for people’s attention.

These services are all good, and may indeed be necessary for finding customers online in this day and age. But it shouldn’t be the end of the story. It should be the start of the story. It should be used to draw people in to where you can share your whole vision.

And we believe that place is your website.
