Dr. Mary Cooke and her team are a savvy group of orthodontics based in beautiful Napa, California. We were struck by their willingness to use the internet to interact with their clients in a constructive, friendly way.

Not Your Average Orthodontics
We focused on redesigning the Cooke website to bring in their particularly delightful sense of gaiety, rooting their practice in the hills and valleys that mean so much to them. (We have our own fondness for the valleys of Napa, as Kandace spent many childhood summers poking around her grandparent’s farm there.) We hope you enjoy the playful vibe, and the website will bring a smile to your face.

Responsive Redesign
The website, originally a static site in Flash, is now fully in HTML, easy to update and integrated with various forms, videos, and a newsletter. The mobile site is sleek, fast, and gives users the full experience in the palm of their hands. To help you get from the parking lot at your daughter’s school to her orthodontics appointment even faster, we added some contact information and a link to the location on Google Maps right at the top of every page. No more long waits, no more hunting around, and it looks pretty good to boot.

Less is More
We are immensely proud of how the site works on small screens. With people visiting the site on their phones (using cell networks rather than wi-fi or broadband) data networks are probably slower than what most visitors get on desktops. We know from experience there’s also no reason to assume that desktop users have fast connections. The bottom line: we need to make sites faster for everyone.
After a focused lean and mean “page diet” we launched the responsive version with load times less than one second, HTTP requests down to about 25, and a total page weight of about 30K. That means we were able to shave a few seconds off load times, drop the HTTP requests down by two thirds, and lessen the total page size by 80%. Not bad!

Forms in a Flash
Clear communication is a powerful business tool. After integrating the site with easy to submit forms, Cooke was pleased to see more people request new patient exams directly from the website. These thoughtful details help Cooke welcome and invite visitors to be a part of their orthodontic family.
