Our design & development process
We create intuitive, updateable websites with clean lines, one by one. Websites that work take a relationship with trust and rapport; we eat meals at our clients’ restaurants and drink wine with them in our backyard. We ask a lot of questions and listen, listen, listen.
Our website design process is essentially five stages:
- Planning
- Design
- Production
- Launch
- Upkeep
Planning
The planning phase of a website design begins when you fill out a client survey. After the reading over your survey, we may have a few clarifying questions. Then, we’ll have an estimate to you within a week.
When we have finalized these details of working together, we’ll get you started on in our project area, where we will post messages, timelines, files and the progress of your project. This phase also includes setting up hosting, gathering website content and site mapping.
This is an ideal time to talk about any ideas that you might have for your website - we’re interested in your having as much (or as little) of a role in design as you’d like!
Design
Once we have all of your content and the planning phase is finished, we’ll begin designing your website. Our projects usually go through 2 rounds of mock-ups.
Our first phase of mockups concentrates on general concepts and content placement. We’ll usually present a handful of ideas at this point concentration on concepts such as layout, graphic, color, and font choices. We’ll send these concepts to you and then take a week or two talking about what works and what doesn’t. This is the time for experimentation!
After we receive feedback from you, we refine those ideas into a single, comprehensive design for the website. We’ll present this rough draft and then spend another week or two talking about the fine details of the site. Together, we’ll dream, think, talk, plan, tinker and design until we have a concept that has a pulse, a life of its own. As Frank Lloyd Wright noted, “You can use an eraser on the drafting table or a sledge hammer on the construction site.”
Production
Once we agree on a look and feel for your site, we’ll move into a production phase. Throughout production, we’ll post iterations so that you can follow along with the work. During this phase, we move from graphical mockups to an actual HTML (or Flash) version of your website. We’ll also spend time optimizing your site to make sure it shows up quickly in browsers and also is searchable by search engines.
Launch
Before we launch your website, we’ll send you a link sign-in and begin getting comfortable with updating the content on your website. Once we have the thumbs-up, we’ll make your site available to the public. Site launch includes testing on supported browsers and then launch of your website.
Upkeep
Once your website is launched online, our involvement with your site is entirely up to you. We enjoy the process of helping your site grow with your business. Although we will do site updates, if you have us create an updateable website, you won’t need us for that! You can update your site yourself without our help or additional charges.
