Minneapolis, Minnesota for Designers (and their Families)

Here at Needmore, we relish the opportunity to get out of the city (whether by heading to the coast, road-tripping to Yosemite, or making our way across the pond). This week, travel takes us to the bustling city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and we’re ready to put on our snow caps and get inspired. We’re on the road with the kiddos this year, folks. And so, our selections are designer/child approved.

Walker Art Center

For the designers: The Walker Art Center is absolutely tops on our list. Not only is their standing collection dreamy, but we’ll be in town to see their Painter Painter exhibit, which is asking questions about why one would choose to paint at all. As designers, we’re awfully curious about their answers. Why does one create, indeed?

For the kids: Artsy Pants, a creativity-inspired session for “hip kids and their (possibly) cooler parents.” We’ll bite.

Como Conservatory

For the designers: As with our love of the Portland Japanese Garden, we’ll head out to Como Conservatory, with its own Japanese Garden. They promise plenty of Zen: “Like any garden, it is alive with beautiful things, making it a feast for the senses. On another level, it can be viewed as a metaphor for life’s journey, a place conducive to entering a meditative state, which calms and renews the spirit.”

For the kids: The Japanese Garden is attached to a zoo. A zoo!

The Depot

For the designers: Finally, we’ll be resting our heads in a converted train depot. We’re sure to dream of distant travels, foggy mornings, and call of the unknown.

For the kids: For a chilly city, Minneapolis is full of bathing-suit induced surprises. Attached to The Depot—a full on water park.

We’ve already started our adventure, but we’re all ears for must see design inspiration. Have we missed anything remarkable?
